Pray For Our President

Today is inauguration day in Washington DC.  President Obama will be sworn in publicly as the President of the United States.  I want to encourage Christians today to pray for President Obama and his family.  Pray specifically these things:

  • His salvation along with the salvation of his family (1 Timothy 2:1-6).
  • Pray for God to grant him wisdom to lead (Proverbs 21:1).
  • Pray for the Holy Spirit to convict him of sin when he sins or when he seeks to pass legislation based on greed, politics, or corruption (John 16:8-11).
  • Pray for his eyes to be opened to the sinful decisions he has already made about abortion, homosexuality, and many other issues.
  • Pray for God to be glorified in Obama’s second term as President (Daniel 4:32) and  rejoice that God’s kingdom will crush all kingdoms including the kingdom of the United States (Daniel 2:44).
  • Rejoice that Jesus is still Lord of all despite Obama being in the White House and He shall reign forever and ever (1 Timothy 6:15-16).
  • Pray for the Democratic Party to turn away from a platform based on Romans 1:18-32 and its full rejection of God.  Pray for God to have mercy and for Obama to turn the party away from ungodliness toward righteousness by the sovereign grace of God (Titus 1:1).

I also urge you to intercede for Congress and for state and local leaders taking office across the United States.  Pray the same for them as above.  Most important for the disciple of Christ is the understanding that Jesus is Lord of all (Romans 10:9-10) and He will crush all kingdoms by His own power and in His own timing (Acts 1:7).

“We Must Keep Our Children Safe” Unless….

President Obama today argued that we need reform in the United States regarding the 2nd Amendment and the right to bear arms.  He argued that we as a nation must do what we can to protect our children and keep them safe.

Unless it comes to abortion.  There President Obama and the entire Democratic Party stands for Romans 1:18-32.  They approve of the wretched practice of murdering babies inside of their own mothers.

Someone said it best today, if you want to end abortion, require the doctors to use guns to blow their brains out instead of a vacuum and then abortion would end (since it was performed by a gun you see).

Face the facts, Obama is a hypocrite to call us to protect our children and do all this possible to keep them safe while he endorses murdering institutions such as Planned Parenthood and other murder clinics.

Exodus 20:13 Mr. President.

Stand Firm For Truth No Matter What

I saw where Louis Giglio has now resigned after being asked by President Obama to pray at the inauguration.  The reason for his resignation was because homosexual groups and the Left were in a firestorm with Obama after someone pulled a sermon Giglio preached in which he called homosexuality a sin and that people in sin (all sins) needed to repent.  In his sermon, Giglio quotes from Scripture to back his points.  He is not merely giving his opinions but is stating what the Bible says.  This caused the uproar and so Giglio withdrew from the inauguration although I am sure the Obama administration politely asked him to not attend.

My advice to all true disciples of Jesus is to not back down from the truth.  Preach the Word (2 Timothy 4:2).  We will be attacked and put down (Matthew 5:10-12) but stand firm for the truth.  We will be viewed as bigots, as old-fashioned, as losing touch with reality, as not being with the times but preach the Word.  Stand firm upon our convictions from Scripture that all sin must be repented of as Giglio rightly said (Acts 17:30-31).  Truth matters.  Don’t compromise.  Don’t give into the spirit of this age for the sake of anything.  Not for the sake of money.  Not for the sake of fame.  Not for the sake of sin.  Stand firm for Jesus and His kingdom.  The Lord will vindicate us (Psalm 73).  Jesus will win this war.  We are promised this.

Persecution is coming friends.  Soon we disciples of Jesus will be hated and killed but the Lord will be glorified as we stand firm for the truth.  No matter what may happen, Jesus will win this war.  Jesus will be the King of kings and the Lord of lords (1 Timothy 6:15-16).  Our blood may be shed for the truth of Christ and His Word but stand firm.  God will reward the righteous.  He will judge the wicked (Revelation 20:11-15).  No immoral person will be in heaven (Revelation 21:7-8) and Jesus will be exalted among His saints.  Let us not give one inch to this world (James 4:4) but let us preach the truth to this world until they kill us.

“I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.” – John 16:33

Post Election Thoughts from an Arminian

Much has been written already on the 2012 US elections.  Many godly men such as Dr. Al Mohler has pointed out that we are facing a dramatic culture shift in the United States.  President Obama won both the popular vote and the electoral vote despite claims by political conservative pundits that he would lose.  Some guaranteed Obama’s defeat (see Dick Morris for example).  I felt that Obama would win but thought he would lose the popular vote.  I was wrong on that as well.

What do we learn from the 2012 elections?

1.  True Christianity Is Losing the Culture War.

Some “Christian” such as Rachel Evans hold that we should realize that younger “evangelicals” just don’t care about abortion or about same-sex marriage and thus why they voted for Obama.  Christians have made the culture war their mandate for many years now but if we learn anything from the 2012 elections it would be that Christians are losing that battle.  Same-sex marriage was passed in the states of Maine and Maryland and likely Washington.  Minnesota rejected the idea (good for them).  The map is clear that in the North and the Northwest, Christianity has little to no bearing on the voters.  The South continues to support traditional marriage but it is a matter of time before that changes as well.

Our mandate as disciples of Jesus is not to transform our culture through politics.  Our fight is not abortion or same-sex marriage though I think we should vote righteously on these issues.  Our fight is for the gospel (Romans 1:16-17).  The gospel will transform our society.  You want people to have a biblical worldview?  Then preach the Bible as the inerrant and infallible Word of God and that Jesus alone saves.  This will transform our society from the inside out (Titus 3:1-7).  People are dead in their sins (Ephesians 2:1-3) so why should we not be surprised when they vote for their flesh and not for God?  We need to disciple our people to think biblically and to proclaim Jesus to the lost (Matthew 28:19-20).  This will transform our nation.

2.  Prayer Must Be A Focus!

The one positive that I see coming out of the 2012 elections would be the call to prayer.  I feared that if Romney won the election then disciples of Jesus would view that as a reason to sit back and relax but with Obama winning, I saw many people calling for prayer.  Good!  This should not take the election of one wicked man to force us to pray.  We should have been praying already.  Paul tells us in 1 Timothy 2:1-7 what to pray for and it is clear that we should be praying for the lost to be saved.  The true Church should pray for President Obama to repent of his sins and be saved (Acts 2:38).  We should pray for Obama to repent of his views on abortion and on same-sex marriage.  God can change Obama’s heart.

Jesus said in Luke 18:1 that we should always pray and not lose heart.  How many lost heart over the elections last nigh?  I did.  I was discouraged when I went to bed and woke up with a heavy heart.  But Jesus said that that should drive us to prayer.  Our faith in a sovereign God should lead us to pray for the United States to repent and for God to be glorified in His Church (Ephesians 3:20-21).

3.  Be Ready For a Fight Even Among “Christians”.

We will see a shift over the next four years.  The younger “evangelicals” who have been soaked in postmodernism, in the seeker church, will push for evangelicals to come “mainline” with the political views of our culture.  We will be asked to allow for same-sex marriage, to accept homosexuality as a legitimate lifestyle, and we will be asked to curb our focus on abortion.  We will be asked to move more toward the left on most issues.  The Republicans (and other “conservatives”) will move away from cultural issues toward more liberal views.  Obama, at the 2012 DNC, was cheered for defending abortion and for coming out in favor of same-sex marriage.  That view, an anti-God view, won last night.  It is clear that our nation agrees with Mr. Obama, that abortion should be allowed and that homosexuality is legitimate.  The Church should not.

We need to stand for what the Bible teaches.  Many younger evangelicals will ask us to reinterpret texts that are against abortion or against homosexuality.  When it comes to abortion, we will be asked to realize that we can never get rid of it but should seek to curb it.  This is the stance of many evangelicals who supported Obama.  They believe this is Obama’s view as well.  We will be asked to embrace same-sex marriages and this will happen because the media will ridicule the traditional view, popular media will give us movies, television programs, and books that support same-sex marriage as a positive and good thing, and many evangelicals will grow weary trying to fight the push to accept the sinful practice of homosexuality.  Many will simply give in and accept cultural norms without a fight.

4.  A Clear Division In the Church.

We will see a rise coming of more and more seeker sensitive, shallow churches.  Why?  Because as the cultural moves more and more to the left, so will the Church.  The Church will do this because they want to be popular, to draw crowds, and of course, make money.  To preach against abortion, against socialism, against homosexuality, against adultery, etc. will not draw crowds.  The words of 2 Timothy 4:3-4 will soon come to pass.  The Church will either embrace postmodernism or will suffer.  I pray that we will heed the words of 2 Timothy 3:12 and suffer for Christ.

On a positive note, the house church movement will grow!  Many churches, to keep their budgets and to keep their buildings, will embrace postmodern Christianity but the true disciples of Jesus, the true Church will stand firm for the Lord (Matthew 24:13).  House churches will grow because they do not require buildings or monies.  Like the underground Church in China, the house churches in the United States will see growth over the years to come.  We can rejoice in that.

May God separate the sheep from the goats (Matthew 25:31-46).

5.  We Must Preach Salvation Through Christ Alone!

Postmodernism will ask the Church to reject the inclusive nature of the gospel but we must stand firm (Romans 10:14-17).  Faith comes by hearing the gospel.  We must preach the truth to people who will hate us for preaching the gospel.  Have no fear.  Even if they kill us, let us stand firm (Matthew 5:11-16).  Jesus didn’t say the world would love us but rather they would hate us (John 15:18-25).  Peter makes it clear in 1 Peter 4:12-19 that we will suffer for being disciples of Christ.  There is no escaping the coming persecution.  The truth has never been popular.  We will be ridiculed for our stand for biblical marriage (Matthew 19:4-6), for our stand that homosexuality is a sin (Romans 1:26-27), for preaching that salvation is in Christ alone.  We will be told to accept what culture defines as norm.  May we resist!  May we stand for the Word of God even when we are laughed at for doing so.

Salvation will never come through politicians.  Transformation of our culture will not come through politics or by corrupting the gospel.  True salvation will only come through making disciples (Mark 16:15-16).  We must preach Christ alone.  We must stand for Christ alone.  We must preach His Word alone.  We must not give in to the culture for to do so will mean the loss of eternal salvation through Christ.  We must preach Jesus.  We must declare to all people to repent of their sins (Acts 17:30-31).  We must lay out the biblical demands of Jesus to follow Him (Luke 9:23-25; 14:25-35) and not water down the gospel for easy decisions.  We must allow the Holy Spirit to do His sovereign work of regeneration (Titus 3:5-7).  Salvation is from the Lord (Jonah 2:9) and He will save sinners as the disciples of Jesus preach His truth but we must open up our mouths and preach Him in order for souls to be saved.

Quick Thoughts on Election 2012

I will post a longer piece possibly tomorrow on my thoughts on Election 2012 but for now let me say some quick words.

First, I actually wrote a “political” piece that I was going to post before the election in which I called the election for Obama.  I saw so many holes in the Romney campaign and felt he would not win the electoral college votes needed to win the Presidency.  I actually wrote that I believed the race would be close but Obama would win.  On what basis he wins is beyond me.  No President with this unemployment rate has ever won re-election but Obama did.  Obama has been the most liberal, anti-God, anti-morality President we have ever witnessed.  He has sent more money to liberal programs such as abortion clinics and he has increased the size of the federal government not to mention the fact that he has taken the US into more economic debt than ever seen before but nonetheless he won the elections.  This is the judgment of God against our wicked nation.  I am firmly convinced of that.

Secondly, it is clear that the United States needs the gospel.  When a large percentage of evangelicals are found voting for Obama, something is wrong.  I didn’t think Romney was the best choice for President but felt he represented values that the Church should ascribe to much more so than Obama yet a large amount of “Christians” voted for Obama.  Stop and consider the fact that Obama is pro-homosexual marriage, pro-murdering the unborn, and he is anti-God in many of his policies.  Yet he won.  This shows me that the US needs the gospel.  We don’t need a political revival.  We need a move of the Spirit.  We are so far from God as a nation.

Thirdly, we are still a deeply divided nation.  It appears that same-sex marriages will now be allowed in four more states: Maryland, Washington, Maine, and in DC (though DC is not a state).  This is very troubling.  It shows that we are still a divided nation.  The South almost all voted for Romney and in the past have voted for the protection of marriage.  We are seeing a nation that is still divided on moral issues much like we were in 1860 with the election of Lincoln and the main issue was states’ rights and slavery.  Today the battle is traditional marriages and whether we will cast aside thousands of years of tradition for sin.  I pray that God will turn the tide by saving many homosexuals (1 Corinthians 6:9-11).

Lastly, the Church needs to pray.  We need to pray for our Government and for them to be saved (1 Timothy 2:1-6).  We need to pray for Obama to repent.  We need to pray for God to pour out His Spirit upon our nation so that our nation repents (Acts 3:19-20).  We need to pray for the gospel to go forth in power in our nation to bring sinners to Christ (Mark 16:15).  We need to pray for the Church to repent of not preaching the gospel and for the Church to rise up and cast off entertainment in favor of honoring God and His eternal kingdom that will never end (Daniel 2:44).

Isaiah 5:18-23 and the DNC

Isaiah 5:18-23 reads:

18  Woe to those who draw iniquity with cords of falsehood,
who draw sin as with cart ropes,
19  who say: “Let him be quick,
let him speed his work
that we may see it;
let the counsel of the Holy One of Israel draw near,
and let it come, that we may know it!”
20  Woe to those who call evil good
and good evil,
who put darkness for light
and light for darkness,
who put bitter for sweet
and sweet for bitter!
21  Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes,
and shrewd in their own sight!
22  Woe to those who are heroes at drinking wine,
and valiant men in mixing strong drink,
23  who acquit the guilty for a bribe,
and deprive the innocent of his right!

Is that not what the DNC did in approving their ungodly platform that supports same-sex marriage, that supports abortion on demand, and wants government to become god over the people?  Did not the DNC do just what Isaiah 5:20 says?

Further, how can any true disciple of Jesus justify voting for any Democrat who supports the DNC platform?  How can any disciple justify supporting the re-election of President Obama who wanted this platform?

The DNC said this about abortion:

The Democratic Party strongly and unequivocally supports Roe v. Wade and a woman’s right to make decisions regarding her pregnancy, including a safe and legal abortion, regardless of ability to pay. We oppose any and all efforts to weaken or undermine that right. Abortion is an intensely personal decision between a woman, her family, her doctor, and her clergy; there is no place for politicians or government to get in the way. We also recognize that health care and education help reduce the number of unintended pregnancies and thereby also reduce the need for abortions. We strongly and unequivocally support a woman’s decision to have a child by providing affordable health care and ensuring the availability of and access to programs that help women during pregnancy and after the birth of a child, including caring adoption programs.

On the issue of same-sex marriage which is not biblical and goes against Genesis 2:24 and the words of Jesus in Matthew 19:4-6 where He affirmed marriage between one man and one woman.  The Church upheld this as we see in 1 Corinthians 7:2 and 1 Timothy 3:2 and Titus 1:6 where both men and women are to have one husband and elders are to be the husbands of one wife.  Homosexuality is a sin as we see in 1 Corinthians 6:9-11 that can be forgiven and repented of just like other sins such as lying, greed, or adultery but we certainly are not to turn and declare as Isaiah 5:20 says, that homosexuality is now justified and righteous and good.  Yet the DNC has this in their platform:

We support the right of all families to have equal respect, responsibilities, and protections under the law. We support marriage equality and support the movement to secure equal treatment under law for same-sex couples. We also support the freedom of churches and religious entities to decide how to administer marriage as a religious sacrament without government interference.

We oppose discriminatory federal and state constitutional amendments and other attempts to deny equal protection of the laws to committed same-sex couples who seek the same respect and responsibilities as other married couples. We support the full repeal of the so-called Defense of Marriage Act and the passage of the Respect for Marriage Act.

I know that this blog doesn’t deal much in politics and frankly I believe that we should pray for all politicians to repent.  I believe the nature of corruption and sin runs Washington DC.  We need to pray for our President to repent of his sins.  We need to pray for the Republican nominee, Mitt Romney, to repent of his sins.  Both are politicians and by nature, they compromise.  The nature of politics is compromise.  Not so with the gospel.  It is either God’s way or not (Matthew 7:13-14).  We either are disciples of Jesus or we are not (John 5:24-25).  We are either children of the light or children of the devil (Ephesians 5:6-12).  We either will be the overcomers of Revelation 21:7 or the ones cast away into outer darkness in Revelation 21:8.

Let us pray for the United States to repent!  Let us pray according to 1 Timothy 2:1-6 and pray for our leaders to be saved as this glorifies God and is His desire.  Politics is not the answer for our nation.  The gospel is.  The DNC is merely representing the sad reality of a sin-filled world (Romans 1:18-32).  Yet how can anyone who claims to follow Jesus support these measures?
