Short Update

Having not written in a while, I just wanted to post a quick update.  The devil has been beating me up pretty good for many months.  I have been struggling in many areas of my life.  That said, I still love the Lord Jesus.  His grace toward me is amazing.  I know that I am saved by God’s grace and not by my works (Ephesians 2:8-9; Titus 3:5-7).  I know that my salvation is based on the work of the Lord Jesus and not my works (Romans 4:5).  I know that I have peace with God through the Lord Jesus Christ (Romans 5:1) and He is my peace (Ephesians 2:14).

I ask for prayer.  I ask for forgiveness from anyone I have hurt.  I do long to please the Lord despite seeing my faults on a daily basis.  Each day I pray Martin Luther’s daily prayer: “Lord help me to not sin this day” and then I pray with Luther during the evening when I go to bed, “Lord forgive me of my sins this day.”  I am thankful that God does forgive me of my sins (1 John 1:9).  I long for holiness (Hebrews 12:14) despite seeing my sins in the light of the gospel.  Thank God for the good news of His grace.

So I am okay.  I find each new day the truths of God’s grace and His mercy while finding my sins in the light of the perfection of the Lord Jesus.

Why Did My Blog Slow Down?

There was a time when blogging was supreme to me.  I would go to work and think about blog posts.  I even kept notes on my iPhone to help me remember blog posts.  I would listen to a podcast of someone and I would always be thinking, “What can I do with this on my blog?”  Those days are gone.

These days I just work.  I still listen to lots of podcasts (mainly preaching and theology but sports are in there as well).  I read my Bible but try to just read it for me and for learning more about God then just looking for a post.  I still read lots of books (special thanks to a subscriber who recently sent me several good books to read) but I just read for me now and not for blogging.

I am thankful for the number of Arminian bloggers I see now.  When I first started this blog back in 2006-2007, there were few Arminian blogs.  In fact, I started my blog with the specific purpose of defining and defending Arminianism.  I saw a need and thought I would add my voice to it.  Having never been a Calvinist, I knew that many people really didn’t understand Arminianism and what we believe.  So I started blogging about theology from an Arminian perspective.  Along the way I have learned much and have made some great friends.  I am proud to see so many Arminians now out there blogging and spreading the gospel (and not just Arminianism).

I am not quitting.  I want to say that up front.  But I have slowed down.  Way down.  Between work (55-70 hours a week) and my family, I have little time to devote to blogging like I use to.  And to be honest, I don’t feel qualified to talk about theology like I use to.  I see so much sin in my heart and I hate it but its a reality.  That’s why I don’t blast guys who struggle, people who sin.  I sin.

Thats said, I still take theology serious.  I do still love Jesus.  I am not perfect (ask my wife and she’ll likely write a book for you).  I struggle.  I want to be godly.  I hate sin.  I long for Christ to return.  I believe we still need revival.  I still long to see people truly saved.  I am tired.

So I’ll still be blogging but that explains why the slowdown.  I pray you’ll forgive me.

2015 in review

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2015 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

The concert hall at the Sydney Opera House holds 2,700 people. This blog was viewed about 23,000 times in 2015. If it were a concert at Sydney Opera House, it would take about 9 sold-out performances for that many people to see it.

Series of Posts on Two Arminian Books

I know other Arminians have been blogging recently on the new book from John Wagner entitled Grace For All but I want to throw my own review in as well.  I am working on a review of this for The Arminian magazine.

I also want to blog on J. Matthew Pinson’s latest book Arminian and Baptist.  This will be a challenge to blog on both but I pray that the Lord will give me grace.

I know the blog has slowed down some but this was on purpose.  I have been consumed with work and with family.  Both are good things.  The Lord knows that I love to write but I needed the break.  However, look for the new posts on the books to be coming soon.

Life Gets Busy

My blog use to be a strong passion of mine.  Now it is a hobby.  A distant hobby.  While trying to work, enjoy my three little boys and my wife, and just live my life to the glory of God, the blog has been on hold a bit.  This is not to say that I won’t be posting or that I am now ending the blog.  I still plan on blogging but it will be slow.  I hope you will understand.  There was a time when I would sit down for hours at my computer to blog.  It was (and remains) fun to me.  I don’t have lots of readers but I don’t blog per se for readers. I blog as my own diary of sorts.  Before blogs, I use to keep notebooks with my thoughts in them.  My notebooks are the same as my blog, focused on the Lord and on what it means to follow Jesus.

Over the next few weeks I plan on getting some posts out.  I have a review of John Wagner’s book, Grace For All, coming out this week.  My heart has been praying for revival in the United States and I would like to spend some time blogging on revival and what revival is and what revival is not.  I also want to post on the Calvinist debates I see taking place almost on a daily basis among themselves on social media.  Calvinism, like all other systems, is not congruent.  If one Calvinist says that what they teach is true Calvinism, another person will come along and challenge that and there is nothing wrong with that.

I remain in love with Jesus, not going anywhere, and thankful our God reigns.  I will blog more soon.

2014 in review

I enjoy these year end reports from WordPress.  Happy New Year!  May 2015 be a year that exalts the Lord Jesus Christ!

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2014 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

The Louvre Museum has 8.5 million visitors per year. This blog was viewed about 72,000 times in 2014. If it were an exhibit at the Louvre Museum, it would take about 3 days for that many people to see it.
