Call All Sinners To Repent

In our culture today, there is a tendency for some of us in the Church to preach against certain cultural sins such as the early Fundamentalist movement preaching against the sins of alcohol during the early 20th century or the tendency today to want to preach against the sin of homosexuality simply because it is the hot sin issue right now.  My advice to all those who love souls and desire to see people saved: preach the wrath of God against all sins.  I urge the Church to call all to repent and not merely to focus in on the sin of homosexuality or homosexuals themselves.  Preach Christ and Him crucified and preach hard against all sin (1 Corinthians 2:1-5).

The bottom line is that all sin deserves the wrath of God.  And all sinners will indeed earn the just wrath of God unless they repent.  We must preach that God hates the liar just as much as He hates the man who practices homosexuality.  We must preach against the sin of adultery just as hard as we preach against the sin of racism.  We must preach against  the sin of unbelief as much as we must preach against the sin of greed.  All sin will destroy the sinner (Ezekiel 18:4; Romans 6:23).  All sin will bear the fruit that it brings: death (Galatians 6:7-9).  Whether that be the homosexual or the porn addict or the rapist or the thief.  All sin breeds one thing: eternal death.

I urge then that we preach the call of God to repent.  We must preach God’s just wrath against sin (Romans 1:18) and that the only hope for sinners is to repent and believe the gospel (Matthew 3:8).  We must preach that God demands repentance of sin (Acts 17:30-31) and that it is His kindness that leads us to repentance (Romans 2:4).  If we got what we all deserve, we would all be dead whether it be the religious hypocrite or the lying liberal.  We all have earned our place under the holy wrath of God.

I fear that we want a god made in our image, that tolerates our sins.  We must see that God hates all sin (Proverbs 6:16-19).  All sin is a violation of His holy laws (1 John 3:4).  All sin produces death.  All of us have sinned (Romans 3:23) and all of us have earned God’s wrath.  Our only hope is Jesus Christ who alone bore the wrath of God in our place (Romans 5:8-9).  The only mediator between the sinner and a holy God is the Lord Jesus (1 Timothy 2:5; Hebrews 9:24).  If we try to appease the wrath of God through rituals or through vain worship or through our good morals, we fail.  Why?  Because we are sinners and our desire is for sin.  Our only hope for overcoming sin, for being free from the wrath of God, from escaping hell is the Lord Jesus Christ.  Jesus alone is able to deliver us from sin and its power (Romans 6:11).  Jesus alone is able to help us overcome our sins.  Jesus alone is able to take us, our sinful selves full of iniquity and full of self desires, and make us new creations in Himself (2 Corinthians 5:17).  Jesus alone is able to save us (Acts 4:12).

I pray that the Church will rise up and preach boldly that Jesus saves.  Jesus does save homosexuals but He also saves the self-righteous and the hypocrite and the liars and the porn addicts.  Jesus saves to the uttermost (Hebrews 7:25).  Jesus is our only hope!
