Great Post From Dr. Roger Olson

Here is a great post by Dr. Roger Olson on the subject of unlimited atonement.  He makes a good argument here that the Calvinist attacks on Arminianism about our view regarding the atonement of Christ is unfair.

  1. I read the link and enjoyed the last paragraph about telling siners about the love of God. I said the same thing to a Calvist friend of mine. I told him his doctrine does not permit him to tell a sinner that God loves them. He paused for a minute and reluctantly agreed! How sad. I often tell people that argue this point that any person with a second grade reading level should be able to turn to John 3:16 and marvel that it is talking about them. As we minister on the street every Tuesday night (besides Jan and Feb, too cold) and I speak with the lost I always share John 3:16 with them and say that “is you, God loves you”. When I preach in the open air I will often quote John 3:16. How liberating to be able to tell sinners that there is a God who loves them and made a way to save them from sin! BEHOLD THE LAMB OF GOD WHO TAKES AWAY THE SIN OF THE WORLD. Good thing John refrained from saying elect, many would have stared blankly.
