1 Timothy 2:1-8 and the US Elections

I don’t begin to write a post on the US Presidential elections.  I have seen so many posts on them that I am frankly tired of politics.  Sadly, too many people believe that what ills the United States is who is the White House.  The thinking seems to be, “If we can just get _____ elected then the United States will repent.”  I know that most would not say those words but that is how we often act in the Church toward politicians.  I just don’t care about politics.  God will be exalted no matter who is the White House or how the economy does.  God is God and we must submit to His authority (Romans 11:33-36).

That said, I want to encourage disciples of Jesus to pray for the elections based on 1 Timothy 2:1-8.  Pray that

  • Politicians would be saved by God’s grace through faith and repentance in the Lord Jesus Christ.
  • For the United States to repent of our sins especially the sin of abortion.
  • For all our leaders both nationally and locally to repent of their sins.
  • For God to be glorified through His Church (Matthew 16:18; Ephesians 3:20-21).
  • Pray especially for whoever is elected President to repent of their sins.
  • Praise God that His kingdom will someday destroy the kingdoms of this world (Daniel 2:44).

What we need in our nation is for the gospel to be preached (Matthew 28:19-20; Mark 16:15-16; Luke 24:47; John 20:21; Acts 1:8; Romans 1:16-17; 1 Corinthians 15:1-4) and for many souls to be saved by God’s grace (Acts 2:47).
