Where Did You Get Saved?

I became a disciple of Jesus Christ in 1992 at the ripe old age of 17.  I was a junior in high school.  I was saved at Trinity Assembly of God in Columbia, SC.  I wasn’t actually saved at Trinity but my family had been attending the church since it started in 1987.  I remember the very first church service at Trinity at a Days Inn in Columbia, SC.  I was nearly 13 years old and the previous night had received my first kiss while attending a party.  I came to church that October morning in 1987 with a big smile on my face but not because of attending Trinity but from my first kiss!

I attended Trinity Assembly of God basically until 1997 before I left to be a youth pastor at a small church in the northeast part of Columbia.  I moved to Georgia in 1999 to take another youth pastorate in Macon, GA before I ended up in the Augusta, GA area until recently.  I left full time ministry in 2005.

Trinity Assembly of God is now called Trinity Church.  I am not sure why they dropped the Assembly of God from their title since they remain part of the A/G’s but perhaps the whole Purpose Driven fad had something to do with that though I don’t know for sure.  The pastor, Terry Roberts, left briefly in 1998 to 2000 to take a church in Florida before he returned to Trinity I believe at the end of 2000.  He is a solid brother and a man of prayer.  I still count him as a mentor and a friend to me despite the fact that I don’t attend Trinity regularly.  The church, of course, has changed much since 1987 and 1992.  They are in a new building and have grown much.  Many of the people that attended there when I became a disciple in 1992 are no longer there.  But brother Roberts and his wife remain committed to seeing the gospel go forth in the east Columbia area.

You can check out the church here and can hear brother Robert’s sermons here.

The church that we are baptized in I think remains a special place to us no matter how far we move from that church.  I often pray for Trinity and pray for God to pour out His Spirit upon them, that revival would come to Trinity, and that brother Roberts would be a man after God’s own heart and would be kept from sin.  I believe we should never forget where the Lord saved us.
